Classes

Pranitya conducts a range of classes covering all the aspects starting with the beginner’s levels to the advanced levels. Classes are typically held during the weekend. However, for groups of 3 or more (maximum 10 students), classes can be scheduled to fit your requirements. Advanced choreography sessions for experienced dancers are gladly provided.

Weekly classes:

For a regular and step wise learning of Bharathanatyam, the weekly classes would be the best option. It is divided into 3 modules.

Practical: practical classes will start off with a few exercises which will tune the body to the bending and sitting postures of the Adavu. Later Adavus which form the basis of Bharathanatyam, will be dealt with. An intense step by step cogitation and reasoning of the basic dance movements will help in better understanding of the art. Taala concept (beats) will be analysed for every Adavu (basic steps) along with their variations in different cases. Thus a clear and deep understanding of the Adavu patterns is dealt in the initial classes.

Theory: Apart from learning to dance, the theory of Bharathanatyam, Indian mythology, etc are also a part of these classes. Parallel to the practical classes, the topics of theory classes will also be dealt with. Starting from the usage of exercises to the different types of Adavus, Asmyuta (single hand gestures), Samyuta (double hand gestures), head movements, neck movements, etc will be introduced and practiced.

Indian mythology: the stories from Indian mythology will be introduced as and when necessary, this would not only make the class more interesting but also informative.

Fees: 180 SFr per month

Personal classes:

For people who would like to be trained individually and much faster can opt for personal classes. Here students get the benefit of having a tailor made programme to suite individual needs.

Pranitya considers the individuals opting for personal classes to have at least some basic knowledge of the art form. Timings for these classes will be subject to flexibility of the tutor as well as the individual.
